NAFSO Sri Lanka conducted International Women's Day celebrations at Rukmani Devi Cultural Centre at Negombo on 04th April, 2025. Deputy Minister of Women's Affairs, Dr. Namal Sudarshan attended as the chief gust of the event.
NAFSO team presented the policy briefing on Fisher Women's issues drafted by policy studies unit. Priyanka Costa, Coordinator, Praja Abilasha network presented the guiding book "Aharin Sapiri Purawarak" (A city with plenty of food) on self sufficient food producer units which promote #foodsovereignty drafted by Praja Abhilasha Network of NAFSO.
Deepa Suba Shini, the national women Coordinator of NAFSO said, "We, the National Women Federation expect to have a dialogue with the ministry and the national Women's beureu on policy document we submitted and also on #CEDAW parallel document presented by #COSO Collective on CEDAW in Sri Lanka."
In response, Hon Deputy Minister said, "We have begun a process which address the decades of issues unattended. On top we need to address the issues of war victimised women and children. As
we are here to serve people and not for personal gains we have begun to settle them one by one gradually. So, we are open to dialogue with the people whom ready to work in cooperation with us."
The program was conducted with the participation of 550 women leaders and men representing 17 districts where NAFSO bases and representing various CSOs, TU, and government institutions.
