People demand the Housing and land rights -Negombo

ඉන්න හිටින්නට නිවසක් නැති,වාසස්ථාන අහිමි වූ පවුල් 25000ක් මීගමුව ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාසය තුල සිටින බව ඔබ දන්නවාද? වත්මන් රජයේ මීගමුව පලාත් පාලන ආයතනයේ නියෝජිතයින් වන වැල්ල්විදිය නාගරික මන්ත්‍රිවරිය සහ කඩොල්කැලේ නාගරික මන්ත්‍රි තුමා, සමග මෙම කොට්ඨාසවල වාසස්ථාන අහිමිව්වන් සම්බන්ධව සාකච්ඡාවක් ජනවබෝධ කේන්ද්‍රයේදී 2025 ජූලි මස 06 පැවැත්විණි. මෙම සාකච්ඡාව සඳහා මෙම කොට්ඨාසවල නායක නායිකාවන් සහභාගි වූ අතර ගරු සරත් ඉද්දමල්ගොඩ පියතුමා,ගරු ක්‍රිස්ටීන් සොයුරිය,ගම්පහ දිස්ත්‍රික් වාසස්ථාන අයිතීන් සඳහා වූ එකතුවේ නියෝජිතයන්ද මෙම සාකච්ඡාවට හවුල් විය. වාසස්ථාන අහිමි වූ පිරිස් ලෙස නොනවතින අරගලය යෙදෙන මීගමු ජනතා ඒකාබද්ධ සංවිධානය මෙම වැඩසටහන සංවිධානය කරන ලදී. සාකච්ජාව තුල මතු වූ කරුණු 1. කුලි නිවැසියන් ලෙස ජීවත්වන අප ජනතාව මුහුණ දෙන මානව ගරුත්වය සහ මනුෂ්‍යත්ව අහිමි වූ අත්දැකීම්, 2. අධ්‍යාපනය, ජන්ද අයිතිය , අස්වැස්ම වැනි අයිතින් අහිමි වීම පමණක් නොව, ස්ථිර ලිපිනයක් නැති අපි කවුද? නිවසක් නැති අපේ අනන්‍යතාව කුමක්ද? යන ප්‍රශ්නයට දිගින් දිගටම මුහුණ දීමට සිදුවීම. 3. උපතේදී, සෑම මනුෂයෙකුටම සුරක්ෂිත නිවසක් අවශ්‍ය මෙන්ම මරණයකදී, ද මිනිය තැබීමට නිවසක් නොමැතිකම මුලික මිනිස් අයිතියක් අහිමිවීමක් බව. මීගමු ජනතා ඒකාබද්ධ සංවිධානය ඒකාරශීව, සංවිධානගතව නොකඩවා වාසස්ථාන අර්බුදය පිලිබදව කරන සටනට, පලාත් පාලන ආයතනයේ සහය අනිවාරෙන්ම ලබා දෙන බව පැමිණි නාගරික මන්ත්‍රිවරිය සහ මන්ත්‍රිවරයා වගකීම් හාර ගැනීම අගය කරන අතර, මෙය යථාර්ථයක් බවට පත් කර ගැනීමට කටයුතු කිරීම මේ මොහොතේ මීගමු ජනතා ඒකාබද්ධ සංවිධානයට ඇති අභියෝගයයි.ඒ සඳහා මෙම අරගලයන්වලදී ගම්පහ දිස්ත්‍රික්කය ලෙස ජාලගත වෙමින් ඉදිරියේදී මේ තවත් ශක්තිමත් කිරීම අපේක්ෂාව වේ. ඉදිරියේදී මෙම ප්‍රශ්න ගැටලූ නිසි ආකාරයෙන් පෙළගස්වා අදාල බලධාරීන්ට යොමු කරවා ගැනීමට ද ගැනීමටද අපේක්ෂා කරයිි. Did you know that there are 25,000 families without homes or secure shelter within the Negombo Divisional Secretariat Division? A discussion on the issue of housing insecurity was held on July 6, 2025, at the Janawaboda Kendraya, with the participation of Negombo local government representatives, including Vallivediya (Municipal Councillor) and Kadolkale (Municipal Councillor). Leaders from the affected areas, Rev. Sarath Iddamalgoda, Sister Christine, and representatives from the Gampaha District Housing Rights Collective also took part in the discussion. This program was organized by the Negombo People's United Organization, which continues to fight as a movement of the housing-insecure people. Key Points Raised During the Discussion: 1. Human Dignity & Humanity Violated: The lived experiences of people who survive as renters under unstable conditions, and how their dignity and basic human rights are continuously violated. 2. Loss of Rights Due to Lack of Address: These people not only lose access to education, the right to vote, and inheritance, but also face the constant existential question of: “Who are we without a permanent address?” What is the identity of a person without a home? 3. A Home is a Basic Human Right from Birth to Death: Every person deserves a safe and secure home at birth, and the lack of even a place to rest the body after death reflects a gross denial of fundamental human rights. The Municipal Councillors who participated expressed their full support to the continuous, collective struggle carried out by the Negombo People's United Organization. Their commitment to stand in solidarity is highly appreciated. However, the challenge now lies in transforming this assurance into reality, which is the immediate task for the Negombo People's United Organization. Looking ahead, there is a hope to further strengthen this movement across the Gampaha District through networking and collaboration. There is also a shared expectation to systematically compile and present these housing-related issues to the relevant authorities in a proper and organized manner in the future.
