📍Chemmani, Jaffna – June 23,24 and 25 2025
Over two decades after the Chemmani mass graves were uncovered, the truth remains buried—along with the lives and stories of the Tamil civilians who disappeared between 1996–1997 during the Sri Lankan military’s occupation of Jaffna.
🕳️ In 1999, only 15 bodies were recovered during an exhumation, despite a soldier's confession that over 300 people were secretly buried in Chemmani. Political interference, lack of will, and state silence have kept families in the dark ever since.
📢 Now, on June 23, 2025, the families of the disappeared have reignited their call for justice with a 3-day protest near Chemmani Kovil. Their demands are clear:
✅ Reopen the Chemmani mass grave investigation immediately.
✅ Conduct a full, independent international inquiry with UN oversight.
✅ Excavate all suspected grave sites in Chemmani and the North-East.
✅ Ensure justice for all victims of enforced disappearances.
📣 We call on UN bodies, human rights organizations, and the international community to support this struggle for truth and accountability.
These families have waited too long. Justice delayed is justice denied.

1996–1997 காலப்பகுதியில் யாழ்ப்பாணம் தமிழ் மக்களின் கட்டாயமாக்கப்பட்ட காணாமல் போக்குகளுக்குப் பிறகு, செம்மணி பகுதியில் இராணுவத்தினால் புதைக்கப்பட்ட மாஸ் கல்லறைகள் உலகத்தால் மறக்கப்பட்டு விட்டன.
🕳️ 1999-ல் வெளிநாட்டு நிபுணர்களின் முன்னிலையில் நடைபெற்ற அகழ்வுப் பணியில் 15 உடல்கள் மட்டுமே கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்டன. ஆனால் 300-க்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்கள் புதைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக இராணுவ வீரர் ஒருவர் நீதிமன்றத்தில் வாக்குமூலம் அளித்திருந்தார்.

1996–1997 කාලයේදී යාපනය දිස්ත්රික්කයේ දෙමළ ජනතාව අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් පසු හමුදාව විසින් මරා දමන ලදී යැයි කියන චෝදනා මත චෙම්මනි ගම්මානයේ ගොඩනැගුණු ස්ථාන වර්තමානයේ දක්නට ඇත.
🕳️ 1999 දී හමුදා සෙබලෙකුගේ සත්ය ප්රකාශය මත ආරම්භ කළ නීතිමය විමර්ශනයකදී ශරීර 15ක් පමණක් සොයා ගැනිනි. නමුත් ශරීර 300ක පමණ සංඛ්යාවක් සිටින බව එම සෙබලයා පැවසීය.
